Halloween in Old Salem
The beautiful backdrop of Old Salem in the fall is usually unmatched, but not this Sunday, as thousands of local families stole the show with the magic of harry potter, the strength of disney princesses, and of course your fair share of goblins, ghouls, heros and villians during the Trick or Treat event on October 27th.
Food vendors lined Salem Square while Old Salem staff and residents handed out candy to the largest crowd I’ve seen in Old Salem in 10 years.
“We heard about it from a friend and thought it would be fun to dress up. When the weather cleared up we were excited to put our costumes on and come out but we never expected all this.” says Winston-Salem native Shelley Grother smiling at her son, dressed as Wookiee. Grother, dressed as the “We Can Do It!” Woman this Halloween.
Heading South on Main, I was shocked and immediately joyful. Reminded of why I moved to WS, my feet carried me forward through a parade of creativity and connection. Stepping back in time and clinging to solid foundation of history is what I love about Old Salem. Everytime I visit I feel like I’m celebrating something. So… Happy Halloween.
